What is CO2 laser resurfacing?

CO2 laser resurfacing is one of the most powerful skin-renewal treatments available. A fractional laser removes thousands of microscopic columns of damaged skin while leaving the surrounding tissue intact, so the skin heals quickly from the edges inwards. Because the laser reaches deep into the dermis, it does not just resurface — it forces your skin to rebuild fresh, organised collagen where scars, wrinkles and sun damage sit.
It treats acne scarring and post-surgical scars, stretch marks, age spots and sun damage, pigmentation concerns such as melasma (cautiously — more below), wrinkles, smoker’s lines, crepey texture and loose skin around the eyes, jawline, neck, décolletage and hands. Treatment takes 30–90 minutes depending on the area, and results are long-lasting — many clients need only one or two sessions for scars or texture concerns.
Is CO2 laser right for you?
Good for you if
- Acne scarring, boxcar or rolling scars
- Deep lines and wrinkles, smoker’s lines, crepey texture
- Sun damage, age spots and uneven pigmentation
- Stretch marks and post-surgical scars
- Loose, tired-looking skin around the eyelids and jawline
Not suitable if
- Darker skin tones — there is a higher risk of pigmentation change, and we will assess your suitability honestly at consultation
- Active acne breakouts, cold sores or infection in the treatment area
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Recent isotretinoin use — tell us at your consultation
- A history of keloid scarring or uncontrolled diabetes
CO2 laser is never performed on the day of consultation. A consultation and patch test are always completed first so your skin’s response can be checked before any full treatment.
Benefits of CO2 laser resurfacing
- Dramatically improves acne scars and skin texture
- Softens wrinkles, smoker’s lines and crow’s feet
- Fades age spots, sun damage and uneven pigmentation
- Treats stretch marks and post-surgical scars
- Long-lasting — often a single session is enough
- Collagen keeps rebuilding for 3–6 months after treatment
How does CO2 laser work?
The fractional CO2 laser creates tiny, precisely controlled micro-injuries in the skin, each surrounded by untouched tissue. Your body treats these as a healing priority: damaged collagen is replaced with new, organised collagen, and the surface renews itself within days.
Because only a fraction of the surface is treated at once — hence "fractional" — healing is far faster than old-style full resurfacing, while still reaching the depth needed for real scar and wrinkle improvement. The settings are tailored to your skin type and concern, which is one reason the consultation and patch test matter. Collagen continues remodelling for three to six months, so your skin keeps improving long after it has healed.
What to expect, step by step
- 1
Consultation and patch test
We assess your skin type and concerns, explain likely results and downtime honestly, and book your patch test. Your plan and exact price are agreed before anything else happens.
- 2
Numbing
On treatment day, topical anaesthetic cream is applied for about 45–60 minutes so the laser is comfortable.
- 3
Laser treatment
The laser passes over the area — you will feel warmth and a prickling sensation. Treatment takes 30–90 minutes depending on the area.
- 4
Days 1–3
Skin feels like strong sunburn: warm, tight and swollen. You will be given a gentle cleansing and moisturising routine to follow exactly.
- 5
Days 3–7
Bronzing, flaking and fine crusting occur as old skin sheds. Do not pick — letting it flake naturally protects your result.
- 6
Weeks 2–12
Redness fades to pink and settles over the following weeks while collagen rebuilds beneath. We review your results and plan any further sessions.
Downtime and recovery, day by day
Honest expectations: CO2 laser is not a no-downtime treatment. Days 1–2 feel like a significant sunburn — warm, tight and swollen, especially around the eyes. Days 3–5 bring bronzing and flaking as the old skin sheds. Most clients need 5–7 days at home before makeup sits comfortably, and residual pinkness can take 2–4 weeks to fully fade.
Strict sun protection is non-negotiable for at least a month afterwards — daily SPF 50, no deliberate sun exposure — because newly resurfaced skin is vulnerable to pigmentation. Avoid picking any crusting (it raises scarring risk), skip saunas and intense exercise for the first week, and pause strong actives until we confirm your skin is ready. You get a full written aftercare plan, and you can call us on +44 7398 769616 at any point during recovery.
Results and sessions needed
Texture and tone improvements become visible once flaking finishes, around week one — but the deeper work continues underneath. Collagen remodelling peaks at three to six months, which is when acne scars and wrinkles look their best.
Many clients need a single session for scars, pigmentation or texture. Deeper acne scarring often benefits from 2–3 sessions spaced a few months apart. Results are long-lasting, although skin continues to age — daily SPF and good skincare protect what you have invested in. At your consultation we will tell you honestly how many sessions your skin is likely to need, and we will never recommend more than that.
Pricing and options
Limited-time offer: 50% off CO2 laser treatments — the prices below already include the discount. A consultation (£30) and patch test (£75) are completed before any full treatment, and your exact plan and price are confirmed at your consultation.
The 50% discount is a limited-time offer and can be withdrawn at any time. Results vary from person to person, and a consultation and patch test are always required before treatment.
Safety, patch tests and credentials
CO2 laser is a medical-grade treatment, so it is never rushed. Every plan starts with a consultation and a patch test — a small test spot that confirms how your skin responds to the laser before any full session. Treatment is performed by Jhoveth, an award-winning, fully qualified aesthetician trained in advanced laser technologies, with settings matched carefully to your skin type.
Being honest about risks: prolonged redness, temporary or lasting pigment change (the key risk for darker skin tones), reactivation of cold sores (preventable with antiviral cover if you have a history) and, rarely, scarring or infection. Because we patch test, treat conservatively and follow up closely, these risks are minimised — and we will always tell you if we believe CO2 laser is not the right choice for your skin.
